Shopping For New Bicycle Accessories
My son recently got a new bike
for the Christmas Holiday. He had received gifts of money from
relatives and some other gifts that will allow him to purchase
some accessories for his bicycle. After everyone left, he totaled
up his gift money and we checked a website together so that he could
choose which bicycle accessories he wanted (or even which bicycle).
My son told me before we visited the website that he had also
been saving his allowance money. He was hoping that he could buy
as many of the bicycle accessories that he wanted - hopefully enough
to complete his 'ride' and to get out on his bike and enjoy himself.
I like the fact that he had been saving some of his money for
things that he really wants.
I told him that we need to find all
of the bicycle accessories that will make his riding safer. He
agreed to what I said, so we sat down to look and here are some
things we came up with. We found a 12v Generator light with a Krypton
bulb in it. I will be happier with him riding his bike after the sun has
gone down if he has some type of light on it.
He liked the idea of the headlight too and so he agreed to use it when
it gets too dark to see. He knew it would help him to be safer, and
to protect him from possibly getting hit by a car at night if someone
could not see him. He found another
safety gadget/light for his
new bicycle by himself. It was red flashing safety lights. I
think that he said something about how they were 'cool'.
A bell was the third and last of the bike accessories to get
picked. I wish it was loud as a car's horn can be, but I think
it really will be effective for what he intends it for. He did
look at a plastic horn but thought that it was 'really stupid' so
that ruled that one out right away.
I told my son that if he was going to ride his new bike
to school that two of his new bicycle accessories needed to include
a lock and helmet. He did have some trouble finding a helmet that
matched the paint color of his bike. I told him that we could go to a
local sporting goods store and probably find the exact color that
matched his bike. He also wanted a different kind of lock than
the website we visited had to offer so it was down to the store
to look for one.
We had a good time finding the bicycle accessories for
his new bike and I'm pretty sure he enjoyed himself as much as
I did. I think that he is really going to have a lot of fun and
a lot more freedom with this bike. But, I think I might want to
sign him up for at least a bike safety class and also a small bike
repair class to help him. I feel that both of those would teach him a
lot and in the end help him get even more out of his new bicycle.
