The Best Kinds of Bicycle Shops
I love bikes. of every shape, color, type
and size will draw me to them like a fly is drawn to honey. It took me a few
years to discover that I do have a preference for particular
kinds of bicycle shops too.
You have your trendy, high volume bike shop, where you
can find all the latest models from the
cutting edge of bike technology and design and they do have
everything. These types of
bicycle shop may also offer some type of repair
service.
Then you have your smaller family operated
bicycle shop. In my experience this type of bicycle shop is even
more likely to offer you more reasonably priced repair services
for your bike.
You
may have guessed that one thing I tend to notice about a given
bike shop, more than any other thing, is the types and the cost
of their repair services that they offer. After
riding for so many years now, there’s one thing that always
eventually happens over and over: your bike will need to be repaired.
Most people pick up repair skills over months or years of riding, but
if you need a repair done by someone else and you don't really feel
like doing it yourself, it’s nice to have a
local bike shop there that is prepared to help you.
By far, I consider the best bicycle shops out there,
the ones that
offer repair services at reasonable prices and deal in second
hand bikes also. Bike shops that are really good at one of these things
are usually very good at providing the other type of service.
Call
around and find out which bicycle shops will refurbish old used
bicycles.
You may be surprised at just how nice a used bike can be, in fact
you might even think that it's brand new at first.
Think about the outcome, instead of adding to a landfill somewhere
that is growing larger by the day. An old
bike can be made new and work like new again too.
Of course used are also a great way to
get a good bike while saving a lot of money, compared to buying a
brand new bicycle. The more bicycle shops that deal with recycled
bikes and resell them to other, the more people that are not
exactly rich will be able to afford their own bicycle. This will
lead to less car exhaust, more exercise and better human interaction.
When I visit shops that don’t like to work with recycling bicycles,
I will voice my opinion to them about how great a service it is; and
how attractive it is to the customer. It’s the little meetings like this in our
daily lives that will eventually change the world. Take part in bicycle recycling
in your town or city and help your little corner of the world!
